Turn New Year's Eve Resolutions into Career Goals

New Year's Resolutions are often mistaken as goals.  Rather, they are often great ideas that seem to disappear by the fifth of January.

Setting goals towards advancing your career require visualization, planning and commitment. Working towards a goal is more involved that shaving five pounds off the hips by not eating chocolate chip cookies.

In order to achieve a career goal I recommend the following steps.

1)  Visualization - Maintaining focus is best achieved by having a picture just not in your mind, but on your desk.  Find a picture that most encompasses your goals and put it next to your computer screen.  Write your goals down on paper and keep them nearby.

2)  Be Specific and Positive:  Set specific dates for achievement of smaller goals.  You will be rewarded with each achievement and your efforts will stay positive.

3)  Motivate Yourself - In addition to achieving satisfaction from making your smaller goals, find ways to reward yourself with things that are important to you.  O.K. Time to bring back the chocolate chip cookies.

Goal setting is regulated as you go through grade school, high school and college.  Notice the fulfillment that is achieved with each passing year.  This type of goal setting can be maintained with discipline while keeping an eye on that pretty picture next your computer screen.

Go get 'em!
